Effect of conditioned medium of mesenchymal stem cells on the in vitro maturation and subsequent development of mouse oocyte BJMBR
Ling,B.; Feng,D.Q.; Zhou,Y.; Gao,T.; Wei,H.M.; Tian,Z.G..
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) secrete a variety of cytokines and growth factors in addition to self-renewal and multiple forms of differentiation. Some of these secreted bioactive factors could improve meiotic maturation in vitro and subsequent embryo developmental potential. The aim of the present study was to determine whether in vitro maturation (IVM) of mouse oocyte with or without cumulus cells could be improved by contact with conditioned medium (CM) of MSCs as well as the efficiency of CM to support follicular growth and oocyte maturation in the ovarian organ of mice cultured on soft agar. The developmental potential of matured oocyte was assessed by blastocyst formation after in vitro fertilization (IVF). Germinal vesicle stage oocytes with or...

Effect of urea in the diet on ovarian follicular dynamics and plasma progesterone concentration in Alpine goats R. Bras. Zootec.
Alves,Nadja Gomes; Torres,Ciro Alexandre Alves; Guimarães,José Domingos; Moraes,Elenice Andrade; Rodrigues,Marcelo Teixeira; Cecon,Paulo Roberto; Bitencourt,Luciene Lignani; Amorim,Lincoln da Silva.
To evaluate the effect of using urea in the diet on ovarian follicular dynamics and plasma urea and progesterone concentration, an experiment was carried out with 29 Alpine goats randomly distributed into four diets, each one containing 0%; 0.73%; 1.46% or 2.24% of urea on total dry matter. The follicular dynamics was monitored daily by ultrasonography. The estrous cycles were characterized by occurrence of two, three, four or five follicular waves. The emergence day of the first follicular wave in cycles with two waves, the length of the third wave and the maximum diameter of the largest follicle of the third wave in cycles with three waves presented a quadratic behavior according to the percentage of urea in the diets. In cycles with four waves, the urea...

Expression of mRNA for the Angiopoietin-Tie System in Granulosa Cells during Follicular Development in Cows OAK
HAYASHI, Ken-Go; BERISHA, Bajram; MATSUI, Motozumi; SCHAMS, Dieter; MIYAMOTO, Akio; 松井, 基純; 宮本, 明夫.
Recent findings indicate that the changing profile of angiopoietins (ANPT) and their receptor Tie2 are closely associated with development and regression of the vascular network in the cyclic ovary. We previously reported that mRNA expression for the ANPT-Tie system in theca interna changes during bovine follicular development and atresia, and both ANPTs affect steroidogenesis in the preovulatory follicle. The aim of this study was to investigate mRNA expression for ANPT1, ANPT-2 and Tie2 in granulosa cells (GC) during follicular development in the cow. Bovine follicles were classified according to the estradiol-17β (E2) concentration in follicular fluid (FF) as follows: (1) E2<0.5, (2) 0.5<E2<5, (3) 5<E2<20, (4) 20<E2<180 and (5)...

Follicular Microvasculature and Angiogenic Factors in the Ovaries of Domestic Animals OAK
SHIMIZU, Takashi; KAWAHARA, Manabu; ABE, Yasuyuki; YOKOO, Masaki; SASADA, Hiroshi; SATO, Eimei; 清水, 隆.
The genetic and molecular mechanisms that control the development of capillary blood vessels during follicular development are beginning to be elucidated. Ovarian follicles contain and produce angiogenic factors that may act alone or in concert to regulate the process of thecal angiogenesis. These factors are ultimately controlled by endocrine, paracrine and autocrine regulation. A recent study indicated that vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) plays an important role in the process of thecal angiogenesis during follicular development. We are developing a novel technology for the induction of follicular development using the technique of in vivo gene administration. Here, we summarize the recent progress of our research.

Histomorphometric analysis of gonads of green turtles (chelonia mydas) stranded on the coast of Espírito Santo state, Brazil Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Failla,G.; Calais Júnior,A.; Pavanelli,L.; Nunes,L.C..
ABSTRACT Studies on reproduction in sea turtles are important due to its life cycle, migratory patterns, high juvenile mortality and environmental impacts. This study aimed to analyse histomorphometrically gonads of C. mydas from the coastline of the Espírito Santo State, Brazil. Ovaries and testicles were collected between 2014 and 2015 from stranded animals. The material was fixed in formalin 10%, assessed macroscopically and processed for histomorphometrical evaluation. Gonads from 34 individuals were evaluated, twenty-four females and ten males. Macroscopic sexual identification presented 100% accuracy confirmed by histology. Sexual dimorphism was observed in one individual, which was considered as adult (CCL=1.023 m). Microscopy of female gonads...

Alves,N.G.; Torres,C.A.A.; Guimarães,J.D.; Moraes,E.A.; Costa,P.B.; Silva,D.R..

Relationship between Ovarian Weight and Follicular Population in Heifers OAK
MURASAWA, Maya; TAKAHASHI, Tsuyoshi; NISHIMOTO, Hiromi; YAMAMOTO, Sawa; HAMANO, Seizo; TETSUKA, Masafumi; 手塚, 雅文.
The size of the ovary varies substantially among cattle. This variation may influence the potential of the ovary to produce follicles. In the present study, we examined whether a relationship exists between the weight of the ovary and the number of antral follicles ≥1 mm. Paired ovaries were obtained from Holstein × Japanese Black F1 heifers. Follicles were classified into three size categories (small: 1.0 - < 5.0 mm, medium: 5.0 - < 8.5 mm and large: ≥ 8.5 mm), and the number of follicles in each category was recorded. Large variations in the weight of ovaries and the number of follicles were observed among animals. Significant positive correlations (r≥0.4, P<0.001) were found between the weight of intact ovaries and the number of follicles in...
